Age 93 and a lifelong resident of Hammond, Emile passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at his residence. He was a farmer most of his life, retired from the Tangipahoa Parish Police Jury after 20 years of service and one of the oldest members of the Knights of Columbus Hammond Council #2952. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Jones, Rosalie Eleser, Margaret Daughtry and husband Larry; sons, Emile Cardinale, Jr. and wife Sherry, Jasper Anthony Cardinale; grandchildren, Chad and Mark Jones, Michael Harper, Patricia Simmons, Deborah Schaerer, Lisa Luther, Rodney Eleser, Scarlet Morris, E.J. Cardinale III, Jennifer, Lori and Lindsey Cardinale, along with 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Emile in death were his wife, Mary Cardinale; parents, Gasper and Mary Cardinale; son-in-law, R.J. Eleser, Jr., as well as eight brothers and sisters. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m., with visiting hours beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Rose Memorial Cemetery. He was the beloved husband of Ruth Lambert Cardinale, father of Debbie, Michael, Gasper Jr., Jason, Ginny, Falon and the late Joey, and stepfather of Gerald Jr., Shelly, Edie, Lee and Kathy. Also survived by 32 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was the son of the late Joseph Cardinale and Virginia Santiago, brother of Joe, Marie and Bridget. She was born February 24, 1918 in Hammond, daughter of the late Vincent and Lucy Guagliardo Milioto, and wife of the late Alphonse Paul Cardinale. She was a retired cafeteria worker from the Tangipahoa Parish School System, retired volunteer after 20 years as a Foster Grandparent at Hammond Developmental Center, and was a member of the Catholic Daughters Court of St. Albert the Great #2050. Surviving are 4 daughters, Claire Varisco, Lucy "Louanna" Whiddon, Virginia "Virgie" Goings, and Bobbie Federer; one son, Anthony Gerard Cardinale; a sister, Mary Lato; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 1 granddaughter and 8 sisters. Friends will be received Monday, July 31, 2006 at Harry McKneely & Son in Hammond from 6 PM til 10 PM, and after 8 AM on Tuesday until 9:30 AM.
