"The Lord has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, and power, and of a sound mind." A resident of Baton Rouge, Dorothy Carlin (or Dot as she liked to be called) was born and raised in Hammond. She attended Southeastern College where she met and married Jimmy Carlin, the star of the football and baseball teams. During WW II Dot worked in a munitions factory and helped out in the local hospital as a volunteer nurse. She worked part-time and then full-time for many years with Rosenfield's and then DH Holmes Department Stores. Dot is survived by two daughters Mary Margaret Carlin Mouch and husband Al, Rebecca "Beckie" Carlin Smith and husband Vernon, son Cary M. Carlin and wife Edith. Grandchildren Heather Carlin Wheeler, James Carlin, Jared White, Sarah Carlin, Jason Lambert, Jessica Smith and Russ Theriot. Great grandchildren Katherine Wheeler, Caroline Wheeler, Madison Albers, Kaitlyn Lambert and Alex Lambert. She was preceded in death by her parents Karl and Ida Hyde, husband James J. Carlin and son James J. Carlin, Jr. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home 9595 Florida Blvd. on Friday November 30, 2012 from 10am till 1pm, Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30pm at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church conducted by Rev. Miles Walsh. Interment to follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be James Carlin, Russ Theriot, Jason Lambert, Evan Wheeler, Joe Kracher and John Abner. Dot was a member of the Yellow Jacket Sorority Club at Southeastern, the Legion of Mary and Altar Society at Our Lady of Mercy and her beloved card clubs. ************************************************************************* Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge) on: 12/19/2010 CARLIN, LAURA CARLINE "TONK" A homemaker and a resident of Bayou Pigeon, she died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Dec 17, 2010, at Plaquemine Manor Nursing Home in Plaquemine. She was 83 and a native of Bayou Pigeon. Visiting for the family will be at Wilbert Funeral Home, Plaquemine on Monday, Dec. 20, from 8:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. Interment in Grace Memorial Park, Plaquemine. She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Trudy and Davis Aucoin Sr., Pierre Part, Evalena Carlin, Bayou Pigeon and Barbara Settoon, Bayou Sorrell; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Nathan Carlin, Hammond, Russell and Patti Carlin, Albany and Billy Sr. and Rexanne Carlin, Bayou Pigeon; two sisters, Mable Berthelot, Bayou Pigeon and Geraldine Crochet, Pierre Part; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Dempsey Carline and Lawrence and Susan Bertholet Carline, all of Bayou Pigeon; 24 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William "W.A." Albert Carlin; parents, Lloyd and Ida Landry Carline; a daughter, Dorothy Young; son-in-law, Monroe Settoon Jr.; a sister, Effie Hebert; and a brother, Joseph "Son" Carline.
