She was 55, born on May 1, 1950, in Hammond. She attended Jackson High School, with the Class of 1968, and received her equivalency diploma in January 1970. She studied nursing at Hammond Area Vocational School and was certified as a nurse by the state in 1971 and 1984. She worked as a licensed practical nurse for 23 years, and worked since 1982 for Thibodaux Health Care, formerly Heritage Manor Nursing Home, where she had been voted employee of the month several times by the residents. She continued her studies in nursing at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux. She had been a member of the Thibodaux Jaycees and did volunteer work with the Special Olympics for several years. She was also a den mother for the Cub Scouts Association of America. She loved to read, and her favorite book and film were "Gone With the Wind." She had seven cats, which she doted on. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was dedicated to and much loved her family, who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her father, Nathan "Bilbo" Conleay, and mother, Juanita Caston Conleay. She is survived by two sisters, Betty and husband Kim Verret, New Iberia, and Evelyn Schilling, Jackson; a brother, Ronald Conleay and wife Becky of Bossier City; two sons, Jeff and wife Dawn Carroll, New Orleans, and Chris Carroll, San Francisco; former husband, Wallace Carroll, El Dorado, Ark.; grandson, Zachary Carroll, New Orleans; and many other relatives and friends. Her brother, Lawrence Conleay, died on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005. Service for Nelda Sue Carroll and Lawrence Conleay at Second Baptist Church, La. 10, Jackson, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, with Brother Mack Stewart presiding. Friends and relatives are welcome for viewing at the church after 8 a.m. Wednesday. Lawrence will be buried along with her ashes in the church cemetery.
