She was born on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 1949, in Hammond, daughter of the late Samuel Alfred Sweeney and the late Dora Dean Blackwell. Surviving are her daughter, Vicki L. Dorsa; daughter and son-in-law, Jodi D. and Karl Wooten Sr.; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony J. Dorsa II and Christina; son, Matthew J. Dorsa; grandchildren, Destini Dorsa, Savannah Tauzin, Abigail Dorsa and Karl Wooten Jr.; brother and sister-in-law, Samuel "Pete" and wife Ivette E. Frances was born on Jan. 9, 1927, to Donald and Norma Sanders in Kentwood. She graduated in 1944 from Donelson High School in Donelson, Tenn. He was 91, born in Liverpool on Oct. 17, 1917. He graduated from Oakland High School in 1938 and served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during World War II. He was a pipe fitter by trade but held lots of interesting positions until he had to retire due to health reasons. He was a member of Masonic Istrouma Lodge 414 for 59 years. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Zachary. He is survived by his son, Donald Carruth, of Walker; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Homer Hopkins, of Zachary; grandson, Justin Hopkins and his wife, Brittany, of Zachary; granddaughters, Amber Hopkins, of Zachary, and Jenna Sawyer, of Baton Rouge; and two great-granddaughters, Sophie and Vivienne Hopkins. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Frances Sanders Carruth; parents, Marshall and Georgia Yarborough Carruth; brothers, Thomas, Stewart, Edward, Ransom, Horace, Bill and Marshall L.; and sister, Margaret Frazier. Luther E. Carruth, 69, died last Saturday on a pleasure visit to New Orleans. Thomas Funeral Home took the remains to Ponchatoula to his late residence. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the late residence; burial was in Kentwood Cemetery. He was a graduate of Kentwood High School. Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Alma Ballam; three sons, Luther E. Simpson of Hammond, the former Anna Carruth; seven grandchildren. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge) on: 4/10/2011 CARRUTH, MARY CLARE LANSDEN Mary Clare Lansden Carruth, 90, was born Dec. 23, 1920, and died Saturday, April 2, 2011, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Kent Carruth; her parents, Elizabeth Mount Walker Lansden and Houston Baylor Lansden; a brother, Capt. Humphrey Baylor Lansden: and two sisters, Martha Lansden Rawls and Elizabeth Lansden Frederick. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Clare Carruth, of Oxford, Miss., and Roberta Kennon Carruth and her husband, Paul Daniel Taylor; and grand- daughter, Grace, of Baton Rouge. Clare graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1941. She was a lifelong member of Kappa Kappa Gamma fraternity. She served as a Wave in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She and Kent married in 1950. Clare renovated numerous houses in New Orleans. She worked with restoration efforts there and throughout the state as a member of the Colonial Dames. She was on the board of directors of the Hermann- Grima Historic House for several decades and chaired the Restoration Committee. She also served on the boards of St. Anna's Residence and the Orleans Club. She was an elder in her church, St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church. For her volunteer efforts, she was recognized in New Orleans as a "Beautiful Activist." Clare moved to St. James Place in Baton Rouge in 2007. She especially enjoyed her friends there and the Butterfly Garden, which her apartment overlooked. Suggested donations in her memory may be made to the Butterfly Garden Fund at St. James Place, Kappa Kappa Gamma fraternity or the restoration fund of the Hermann-Grima Historic House. A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge, 8470 Goodwood Blvd., on Saturday, April 16, at 1 p.m. Interment at a later time in Woodland Cemetery in Kentwood.
