Burnell was born on Saturday, January 23, 1915, in Independence. He was a retired truck driver for Conoco. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Rose Mary Anzalone Cason; daughter & son-in-law, Faye and Michael LaMarca; 3 grandsons and their wives, Darren and Babbette LaMarca, David and Susan LaMarca and Michael Jr. and Dawn LaMarca; 1 granddaughter, Dianne LaMarca; 2 sisters, Evelyn Blain and Mamie Stevens; also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, Blanchard Cason and Mary Cannon Cason; 1 sister, Ina Gaines; 2 brothers, Omer and Ed Cason . Friends will be received Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond from 9:30a.m. until services. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel, Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev Mitch Williams officiating. Interment was in Stevens cemetery near Independence. Mrs. Cason, a sister of the late Dallas Calmes of Independence, died Monday in Memphis. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 6/10/2007 CASON, FRANCIS DICKIE "BABY FACE" Our beloved father, husband and friend, a resident of East Taunton, Mass., and a native of Independence, after a long battle with cancer, was called home by his Lord on Sunday, June 3, 2007. He was 67, born July 2, 1939, in Independence. He was a retired pipefitter out of Local 198 in Baton Rouge and Local 51 out of Providence, R.I. He was awarded a Master Mason from the Massachusetts Consistory. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1960. He won 13 USAFE and GG boxing championships from 1956 to 1964. He loved his boxing and was a great fighter. Visitation and a wake service led by the Rev. Philip Spano will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Tuesday, June 12, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Independence Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 13, beginning with visitation at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Mitch Williams of Independence Baptist Church will be conducting the service. Inurnment in Stevens Cemetery off Huck Road will follow immediately after the service. Mr. Cason is survived by his wife, Sandy Cason; children, Richard E. Cason, Belinda Cason Denicola, Sherrie Cason Spano, James W. Cason and John F. Cason; the mother of his children, Arlene Smith Jenkins; grandchildren, Jacob Cason, Courtney Bourgeois, Allison Cason, Taylor Cason, James Cason, John Cason, Jessica Cason Hunter Cason, Carli Cason and Isabella Spano; and numerous friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jewelene Cason; his mother, Earline Harriet Cason; grandparents, Annie Warren Cason and Frederick Earl Cason; aunts, Jewell Cason Stilley, Maxine Cason and Margie Cason Palazotta; uncles, Harold, Carl and Jackie Cason; and longtime friend, Raymond Zumo. He was 60, a native of Baton Rouge and owner of R&B Marine Construction. Survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Belinda Pinion Cason; son, Brett James "B.J." Cason; mother, Ms. Gloria DeMartin Kirby, of Baton Rouge; two stepdaughters, Leslie Gardner and Chrisite Varnado, of Ponchatoula; and two stepgrandchildren, John Michael Gardner and Emily Stricker, of Ponchatoula. He was preceded in death by his father, Omar Albert Cason, who was of Baton Rouge. Robert was best known for his dedicated service to his community, friends and neighbors, as well as extending a helping hand to strangers. He and his wife loved to share time together on the water in their "go fast" powerboat. Robert will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
