He was born Feb. 12, 1922, in White Castle on Cora Texas Plantation and grew up in Napoleonville. He served in the Naval Air Corps during World War II. He attended the Southwestern Louisiana Institute, currently University of Louisiana at Lafayette, in Lafayette. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Frances Watkins Chauvin; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nanette and John Guerin, Suzanne and Tracy Durham of Hammond, and Jayne and Chip Bankston of Mandeville; four sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Michelle Chauvin, Tom and Vikki Chauvin, Steven and Robin Chauvin, and Tim and Lori Chauvin; 15 grandchildren, Marquette, Sarah and Daniel Guerin, Madison and Chloe Chauvin, Charlie Thornton, Stevie and Maggie Bankston, Sparky and Hunter Chauvin, Mary Frances and Jack Chauvin, and Jessica, Nelie and Hannah Durham; and a sister, Clara Ruth "Cogy" Gilbert of Baton Rouge.
