He was 91, born Wednesday, June 23, 1915, in Hungarian Settlement, the son of the late Louis Chemay and Jennie Bruskay Chemay. Mr. Chemay graduated from LSU in 1939 and was an educator for 37 years in St. John the Baptist, Plaquemines and St. Charles parishes. He was a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra for more than 50 years. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific theater. Surviving are four sons, Frank L. Chemay of Baton Rouge, Frederick E. Chemay of Erie, Colo., Mark T. Chemay of Albany, and Albert P. Chemay of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter, Constance A. Chemay of Hammond; grand- daughter, Antoinette Brabham of Hammond; three grandsons, Richard DeLong of Hammond, and Jordan Chemay and Jared Chemay, both of Jacksonville; great- grandson, Logan Brabham of Hammond; brother, Albert Chemay of Del Rio, Texas; three daughters-in-law, Cynthia Chemay of Baton Rouge, Judy Chemay of Eire, and Karen Chemay of Albany; and a sister-in-law, Jean Chemay of Baltimore. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Davenport Chemay; and a brother, Frank J. Chemay. Friends will be received on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Margaret Catholic Church, Albany, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Paul Tung Nguyen, celebrant. Interment in the church cemetery. She was 86 and a native of New Orleans. Visiting at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 9 a.m. until religious service in the chapel at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, conducted by Monsignor Leo Guillot. Interment in St. Margaret Catholic Church Cemetery. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Louis J. Chemay of Hammond; four sons, Frank L. Chemay of Baton Rouge, Frederick E. Chemay of Ft. Lupton, Colo., Mark T. Chemay of Hungarian Settlement and Albert P. Chemay of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Constance A. Chemay of Hammond; four grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Bynner and Constance Addington Davenport; two sisters, Elizabeth D. Marsh and Katherine D. Boesch; and three brothers, Thomas A., John E. and Benjamin B. Davenport. She was a longtime resident of LaPlace and a retired teacher and librarian from St. John the Baptist School System. She graduated from Sophie Wright High School in New Orleans and was a 1941 graudate of LSU. She was also a member of the LSU Symphony Orchestra that toured Europe in 1938.
