A resident of Hammond, he died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, in Hammond. He was 79 and a native of Baton Rouge. He is survived by two sons, Calvin Roy Chidester Sr. and Dennis Chidester; a sister, Catherine McGinty; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Schultz Chidester; parents, Alton and Etta Chidester; brother, Marvin Chidester; son, Larry Keith Chidester; two infant sons; and four sisters, Ada O'Hara, Mildred Klienpeter, Evelyn Wiltz and Frankie Chidester. "Honey" Chidester Sr. passed away at his home in Prairieville on Saturday, May 13, 2006, at 5:38 a.m. Marvin was the retired owner of Chidester Electric Co. He was 77, a native of Baton Rouge and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Visiting at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Prairieville, on Monday, May 15, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Eric Gyan. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Higginbotham Chidester; two daughters and sons-in-law, Madeline and Chuck Babin and Carol and Keith Babineaux, all of Prairieville; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Marvin G. Chidester Jr. of Houston, Alton and Gael Chidester and Arthur D. Chidester, all of Prairieville, and Mark and Tracey Chidester of Zachary; 18 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Alton H. Chidester Jr. of Ponchatoula; and sister, Catherine McGinty of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton Henry Chidester and Etta Theresa Comeaux, both formerly of Baton Rouge. He was an avid outdoorsman and beekeeper. The family would like to thank Hospice of Baton Rouge with special thanks to Lisa, Vickie, Gwen, Felicia and Kim.
