She was a native of Lafitte and resident of Independence. Survivors include two sons, Vernon S. Christen Jr. of Independence and Parnell J. Christen of Barataria; a daughter, Catherine Christen McCarroll, Independence; three sisters, Leona Brunet of Fort Wayne, Ind., Alecia Davenport of Marrero and Nita Head of Oil City; a brother, John Shilling, Tunica; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her parents, Clarence and Rita Guidry Creppel, preceded her in death, as did four sons, Glenn, Dwayne, Michael and Todd Christen; two brothers, Clarence Creppel Jr. and Adam Creppel; and a sister, Louise Davenport. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations. Abita Springs - Asberry Christon Jr., 61, died Monday, April 15, 2002, in St. Tammany Parish Hospital. He was a native of Detroit and a cook. He is survived by his wife, Ida Mae Watts Christon; two daughters, Vevian Christon and Maeatta Christon of Detroit; two sons, Lenard Christon of Abita Springs and Asberry Christon III of Detroit; three sisters, Virgie C. Field and Dorthy Christon, both of Abita Springs, and Evelon Christon of Albin, Mich.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be today at Greater Mount Herman Baptist Church, Abita Springs, from 5 p.m. until the funeral at 8. Dismissal will be Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Little Zion Cemetery, Abita Springs. She was preceded in death by her parents. The Rev. Lee Rawls conducted the funeral today. Burial was in Little Zion Church Cemetery.
