He was born Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1942, in West Texas, son of the late John and May Roussel Clausen. Surviving are his wife, Giovanna Arnone Clausen, Independence; son, Floyd J. Clausen, Independence; granddaughter, Samantha B. Clausen, Independence; grandson, Joseph M. Clausen, Independence; and his sister, Myrtle Phelps of Westlake. He was preceded in death by brother, Grady Payne. Friends were received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, on Friday, April 7, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Visiting at the funeral home Saturday, April 8, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Religious service will be held at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, Independence, on Saturday, April 8, at 1 p.m. with the Very Rev. Paul A. McDuffie, V.F. officiating. Entombment will follow in the Colonial Cemetery Mausoleum in Independence. "MIKE" Marine Medal of Honor recipient, Raymond Michael "Mike" Clausen Jr., passed away at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, Sunday, May 30, 2004. He received the medal for heroic action above and beyond the call of duty on Jan. 31, 1970, while serving as a helicopter crew chief in Vietnam. Mike was born Oct. 14, 1947, in New Orleans, and was a resident of Ponchatoula. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Raymond M. Clausen Sr.; and brother, Jerry Clausen. He is survived by his wife of nearly 28 years, Lois, of Ponchatoula; brothers, retired U.S. Marine Corps Gunnary Sgt. Carl Clausen of Hammond and former Marine Erdwin Clausen of Manila, Philippine Islands; sister, Christine Clausen Ballard of Albany; and 11-year-old beloved niece, Lois Lavita Evans O'Sullivan of Ponchatoula. Viewings will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2004, and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula. Funeral service at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 330 W. Pine St., Ponchatoula, at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial in Ponchatoula City Cemetery.
