He was born February 16, 1931 in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, son of the late Cecile and Winnie Gardner Clegg. Dr. Clegg was the former Director of Missions for LaTangi, St. Tammany, Chappapella, and Eastern Louisiana, former Pastor of First Baptist Church of Greenburg, and Pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Church in Ponchatoula. Surviving are his beloved wife, Dorothy Beckman Clegg; daughter, Lauranne Clegg Shelton; three sons, Larry Clegg Jr., Roni Clegg, and David Clegg; brother, Cecil Clegg, Jr.; and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Emma Jean Clegg, and a brother, James Franklin Clegg. Friends will be received at First Baptist Church in Ponchatoula on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Thursday Dr. Clegg will lie in state at First Baptist Church in Ponchatoula from 8:30 a.m. until the 10 a.m. Religious Service, conducted by Dr. Jake Roudkovski. Interment will follow in the Ponchatoula Cemetery, Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454.
