He was 87. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marguerite Albin Clement; a son, Bradford T. Clement and his wife, Regina; two daughters, Catherine Clement and Paige Clement; four grand- children, Crystal, Aaron, Beau and Catherine; and a great-grandchild, Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olivier Leonard Clement and Gertrude Thibodaux Clement; and three brothers, Olivier Leonard Clement II, Thomas Oscar Clement and James Norman Clement. Carroll served with the 8th Air Force in Norwich, England, flying 33 bombing missions during World War II. He received a Purple Heart Medal, five air medals and several other citations. Carroll, employed for more than 50 years in the field of education, began his career teaching veterans on the Farm Training Program in Livingston Parish. Later employed with the Tangipahoa Parish School System, he became a principal of Hammond Junior High, Hammond Eastside Elementary and Woodland Park Elementary. Next he became a supervisor of Child Welfare and Attendance within the parish school system. Upon retirement from the Tangipahoa School System, he became principal of Valley Forge Academy for five years. After his retirement from Valley Forge Academy, he taught GED classes at Hammond Technical College. He served as president of Hammond Lions Club and Hammond Jaycees. As a young man he enjoyed fishing, hunting and other sports. Later in life he enjoyed grocery shopping and cooking. Carroll was a compassionate man, loved by both his family and students. He was a member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church. He is one of the last few from the Greatest Generation. Friends will be received at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, Hammond, on Friday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Grace Memorial Episcopal Church Cemetery. Clement, one of the best known citizens of Ponchatoula was the victim of a tragic accident last Friday when he was struck by an auto driven by E. I. McPhaul of Ponchatoula. Mr. Clement, bookkeeper for the Nehi Bottling Works, was crossing the street when he was struck. He was carried to the Baptist Hospital in New Orleans where he died Sunday. Funeral services were held Tuesday with religious services at St. Alphonus church, and interment in St. Vincent's cemetery. Mr. Clement was in his 69th year and had resided in Ponchatoula for more than 50 years. He is remembered as a member of the old firm of Clement, Wells & Alford, and later was in the drug business with H. P. Mitchell, now a resident of Hammond. Mr. Clement leaves his widow, the former Rita Engler; a daughter, Margaurite, of Ponchatoula; a son, P. J.
