Survivors include his wife, Laura Combs of Ponchatoula; two step-daughters, Clara Wilson of Baton Rouge, and Ella Rose Seymore of Ponchatoula; three sons, Joe L. Williams of Bronx, N.Y., Johnnie Seymore and Nathaniel Combs, both of Hammond; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. His daughter, Mildred Womack; and one grandchild, preceded him in death. Visitation will be tonight at N.A. James Funeral Home, Hammond, from 4 to 8 p.m. The Rev. Roosevelt Watson will conduct the funeral Saturday at Straightway COGIC, Ponchatoula, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Ponchatoula Cemetery. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star: 3/30/2010 COMBS, NANNIE HURT 1905-2010. Nannie Hurt Combs, 104, a resident of Hammond, Louisiana, died March 27, 2010, in Live Oak Village. She is survived by her sister Nelle Boyd, of Pasadena, CA, by two children, Sue Parrill of Hammond, and David A. Combs of Henderson, NC., and by two grandchildren, Stephen Parrill of Hammond, and David A. Combs, Jr., of Clarksville, VA. Of her four grandchildren, three-Haley Marie Parrill, Emily Anne Parrill, Marie Adele Parrill-live in Hammond, and one-Kaitlin Combs-lives in Clarksville, VA. Mrs. Combs was preceded in death by her husband Amos Combs, her brother, Fred Raymond Hurt, and two sisters-Maude Redd and Pearl Amos. A native of Kentucky, Mrs. Combs spent the greater part of her life in Lewisburg, West Virginia as the wife of a dairy farmer and as a schoolteacher. After retirement, the couple moved to Goldsboro, where they were members of the New Hope Friends Church. Her husband having died, Mrs. Combs moved in 2003 to the Hammond area to be near her daughter. She led a long, useful life and will be greatly missed. Seymour Funeral Services of Goldboro, NC, is in charge of arrangements. A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 3, at Wayne Memorial Park, 1191 Old Grantham Road, Goldsboro, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the New Hope Friends Church, 4451 US Hwy 70E, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
