Frederick Landon Connell Jr., 73, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at Ochsner Hospital from respiratory failure. A native of Longview, Texas, he was born in Clarksville, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a medic and aviation mechanic on board aircraft carriers and was stationed in Japan. He was a retired professor at Southeastern Louisiana University having taught finance, economics and management at various colleges. He received a master's degree in economics from the University of Florida and his doctorate degree in finance from Florida State University. He belonged to many professional financial organizations, was active in local Boy Scout Troop 170 and was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Smith Connell of Tickfaw; his children, Landon Kimbrough Connell of Tickfaw, Frederick Landon "Trey" Connell III of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Tricia Connell Johnson of Canton, Ohio; one grandchild; and his brother, Billy Don Connell of Arlington, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Landon Connell Sr. and Lucile Kimbrough Connell Henderson; his stepfather, William Thomas Henderson; and an infant sister, Freddie Lucile Connell. Visitation will be today at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 8:30 until 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Ghost Catholic Church at 10:30. Burial will be at Rose Memorial Park Mausoleum, Hammond. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Ghost Catholic School or the American Cancer Association. ***************************************************************************
