Beloved husband of Kyra Finnegan Cook, they were soulmates and each others' one true love. He is so deeply missed by her and his beloved pets, whom he loved as his children. He was the devoted son of the late Larry Jackson Cook, whom he dearly missed, and the late Gail DeGregolia Cook, with whom he had such a special bond and for whom he held the utmost respect, loving grandson of "Maw Maw" Rita DeGregolia, whose loving support through the years was unwavering and on whom Craig always knew he could count, and also the late "Paw Paw" John DeGregolia, whose strength of character and devotion to Craig and family remained a constant influence in Craig's life. He is also survived by his brothers, whom he loved more than life had words for, Matthew Cook and Mark Cook, their wives, Dawn and Tiffany, and their beautiful children whom he was so very proud of, Cory, his godchild Kayla, his godchild Colin, and Emma. He was preceded in death by his brother Larry and sister, Kelly, whom Craig held so closely in his heart throughout his entire life. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Kelley, whom he once said he wished he had the unbelievable strength he saw in her to survive life's pain and be there for her children, Emily and Michael, for whom Craig had a special place in his heart, seeing them as survivors of life's adversities. Nephew to many loving aunts and uncles, those that have passed and those that are still with us, many of whom had touched his life in special ways. He is also survived by many cousins who all had a place in his heart and he often felt a brotherly love with many. Also survived by dear friend, mentor and "adopted" father figure, Zach Ellis and his family, who considered Craig part of their family, and Ildie Rogers and her entire family, including her special children, his first godchild, Jessica and her brother, Trey, who also loved him as family. He took great pride in his work ethic, award-winning projects and educational achievements. After graduating from Archbishop Rummel High School in 1985, he attended the School of Business Administration at the University of New Orleans. In August 1992, he successfully completed the four-year National Joint Apprenticeship and Training for the Sheet Metal Industry, recognized by the Louisiana Department of Labor. The next 12 years would include Craig working with mentors such as Zack Ellis; establishing his own roofing company; assuring his education continued through numerous resources and encouraging others in his field to do the same, and this would include his brother, Mark; next securing a position with the Louisiana Facility Planning and Control; and ultimately obtaining his title as a registered roof observer in October 2004. Craig's creativity, dedication to a job well-done, intelligence and absolute ingenuity will be greatly missed in his profession. For those who live in Louisiana, Craig's work surrounds us. There are not many areas that do not include his projects. One recognizable location in which he took great pride is the restoration of Commander's Palace. Both in his professional and personal life his generosity was unending. Sharing his time and talents with others was second-nature and his unselfish desire to help others succeed in any area of life was unwavering. And, as many of you know, his charitable nature extended as well to animals, many of whom joined his family. Until the very end Craig was the most giving and loving man. But he was also a man suffering with the life-debilitating mental and physical issues that are anxiety disorders. He was searching for answers and would want others to know he fought daily to live life and that the love in his life saved him at the end of each day. A memorial fund has been established in his name with the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, http://www.adaa.org., and in lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations be made in his name to this fund. Visitation for relatives and friends begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery). Family and friends are invited to attend Mass beginning at noon. His interment will be private. Those unable to attend are invited to view and sign an online guestbook at http://www.lakelawn metairie.com. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star on: 11/30/2003 COOK, ETTRICE HUCKABAY Farmerville - Ettrice Huckabay Cook, 96, died Nov. 27, 2003, at her home.
