She departed this life on December 28, 2006. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many. She worked as a skilled caregiver to homebound elderly and disabled. When her mother became ill, she returned to Independence to help care for her until her death. Willie then made her residence in Hammond, where she became a humble, faithful and generous volunteer in the community, especially with university students, the less fortunate and disabled. She was an active support community member of St. Albert Chapel and Catholic Student Center, serving Southeastern Louisiana University. She made many friends while at St. Albert, and she touched many lives through her extension of friendship. At St. Albert she served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and coordinated the year-round Thursday Student Lunch program. She also helped in the serving of student lunches and holiday meals at the Methodist Student Center and helped to deliver Thanksgiving baskets to needy families in the community. She made an indelible mark on all with whom she came in contact, and she will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Ulysses Sr. and Ellen Cook.
