A native of Ponchatoula, she was born on November 17, 1919. She was the daughter of the late John A. and Celia Parker Davies. She is survived by her children, Charlene Hughes (Danny) of Metairie, LA; Leroy Core(Carole) of Travelers Rest, SC; Kay Fortenberry of Lacombe, LA; and Fay Core of Decatur, GA; her grandchildren, David Parta, Allison Parta, Sharon Core, Cathleen Carman; great- grandchildren, David Parta Jr., Alyssa Parta, Austin Carman; and 2 great- great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, George Davies and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Core, sister, Albena Davies; brothers, Johnny and Steven Davies; grandsons, Barry Parta, Hunter Fortenberry; and son-in-law, Wade Fortenberry. Alice was a retired Food Service Supervisor at Southeastern Louisiana University. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ponchatoula, the Harmony Sunday School Class, the Young at Heart Club of FBC, the Sunshine Club, the Golden Age Club and the Golden Lions Retirees of SLU. She was a former volunteer with the March of Dimes. She was an artist who shared her work with family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and was a recent recipient of the Ponchatoula Gardenetts Garden of the Month. Friends will be received Monday, June 15, 2009, from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 1:00 pm with Dr. David Cranford officiating. Interment will follow in the Davies Cemetery in Ponchatoula. The family wishes to thank Elaine and Mary of Prime Care Home Health, North Oaks Hospice and Dr. Greg Allen for their care and support. While Alice had many caring friends and relatives, the family wishes to say a special thank you to her cousin, George Parker whose weekly visits were treasured by her and her family. Pumpkin Center - Frank W. "Sonny" Core, 66, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Threeton Core of Pumpkin Center; four daughters, Gwen Robertson and Dana Core, both of Pumpkin Center, and Tammy Arnone and Stephanie Baham, both of Independence; five sons, Frank G. He was a native of Texas. He managed the Sontheimer Dairy Farm located on the Tangipahoa River in the early '30s before moving to Folsom in the '70s to help his son grow produce for the New Orleans French Market. Survivors include his wife, Annie Lou Corbin Core Magruder, Ponchatoula; brother, Charles Core, Corpus Christie, Texas; seven children, Harold D. Core, Beaumont, Texas, Wilma Core Wright, San Antonio, Lila Faye Core Russell, Albany, James C. Core, Folsom, David C. Core, Ponchatoula, Frances Core Carrington, and Susan Core Threeton, Hammond; 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. She was 96, a resident of Denham Springs and a native of Ponchatoula. Visiting at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Visiting at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until religious services at 1 p.m. Thursday, conducted by the Rev. Robert Burns. Interment in Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery, Denham Springs. Survived by a daughter, Leslie Bennett; a son and daughter-in-law, Milton and Mary Alice Core; seven grandchildren, Joseph M. and Stephen J. Henderson, Douglas and Gregory Core, Patrice Furgeson, Johnanne Robinson and Brandi Bennett; eight great-grandchildren, Carrie and Michael Henderson, Dawson and Justin Core, Stephanie and Garrett Furgeson, Raylin and Randal Robinson; a great-great-granddaughter, Allisa Henderson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Milton Core Sr.; parents, Stephen and Albena Parker; a daughter and son-in-law, Vivian Pearl Core and James W. Henderson; sisters and brothers; and a great- randson. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church since 1938, and a 49-year member of Order of the Eastern Star, Mystic Chapter 108. She graduated from Southeastern College in 1925, and was an avid NASCAR racing fan.
