Burial will be in the Old Ville Platte Cemetery. The Rev. Gene Tremie will officiate the services. Joseph Emile Coreil was born March 16, 1919, and passed away Thursday, April 17, 2008. He was a scholar who devoted his life to public service. He was one of the last attorneys to enter the Bar through private study. He served two terms in the Legislature after his election in 1962. He also served as city judge and then district court judge. Finally, he served on the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal at special appointment by the Louisiana Supreme Court. He was a great raconteur and historian who loved his family. He is survived by four nieces, Lucy Mae Cantelli, of Opelousas, Sister Bernice Coreil and Ruth Gilly, both of Slidell, and Diana Perrodin, of Lake Charles; a nephew, Jacques Coreil and wife Ethelyne, of Ville Platte; four grandnieces, Karren Ryder and husband David, of Washington, Elise Dantin and husband James, of Slidell, Jeanne Lehner and husband Robert, and Melissa Reich and husband Scott, all of Houston; and two grandnephews, Clifford Acosta Jr. and wife Richelle, of Hammond, and Curtis Robert Perrodin, of Moss Bluff. He was especially fond of two great-grandnieces, Tatman Ryder Savio and husband Phillip, of Washington, D.C., and Coreil Ryder, of Minneapolis. Mr. Coreil was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Marie Louise Coreil; a sister, Marie Louise Jeanne Coreil; and five brothers, Jules Otis Coreil, Mayo Coreil, Jacques Robley Coreil, Albert Malvin Coreil and Frank Coreil. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Sunday, April 20, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Monday from 7 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
