She was a native of Reserve. She is survived by three sons, Tommy, Nicholas and Kenneth Cortez, all of Amite; three daughters, Laticia, Latoya and Kimberly Cortez, all of Amite; three sisters, Evelyn Songy of Walthall County, Miss., Francis Tolend of LaPlace and Victoria Donley of Amite; two brothers, Herbert Cortez of Garyville and Victor Cortez Jr. of St. Gabrielle; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Aurelie Cortez; one grandchild; one brother, Richard Cortez; and one sister, Juliet Michael. Visitation will be today at Richardson Funeral Home, Amite, from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be Thursday at Gordon Richardson Temple of Deliverance COGIC, Amite, at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Amite Memorial Garden, Amite. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star on: 6/18/2002 CORTEZ, LADARIUS Independence - Ladarius Cortez, 6, died June 13, 2002, in a car accident. He is survived by his mother, Tamika Doty of Independence; his father, Kenneth Cortez of Independence; two sisters, Madison Lynell Ann Cortez and Jada Kentrell Cortez, both of Independence; his grandmother, Barbara Ann Cortez of Amite; and his grandfather, Kenneth Earl Smith of Independence. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ida Nell Doty and Benjamin Doty. Shirley Patterson conducted the funeral today, and burial was in Leonard Chapel Cemetery, Independence. Richardson Funeral Home, Amite, was in charge. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in the Hammond Daily Star on: 3/1/2013 CORTEZ, ROSE MARIE MAHR BURNAM ARCENEAUX Rose Marie Mahr Burnam Arceneaux Cortez, 83, of Lafayette, Louisiana, passed away on February 28, 2013, at her daughter's home in South Riding, VA. A memorial service is March 4 at Duhon Funeral Home in Rayne, LA, from 8 to 10 a.m. with a rosary at 8:30. Funeral Service will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond, LA, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Hammond, where she will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Waldo Burnam. She was born on April 7, 1929 in Chillicothe, MO, to her parents, the late Herman and Eva Mahr. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy, Chillicothe, MO, in 1947. Rose and her late husband, Waldo Burnam were previous owners of the Tropic Cafe. Rose was a loving and generous wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Rose touched many hearts by babysitting in her home. She made close and lasting relationships with the children and their parents. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Mrs. Cortez is survived by her husband, Herbert "Bootsie" Cortez, 3 daughters: Martha Griffith of AL, Valorie Jarreau of VA, and Patricia DeRouen of Lafayette. 3 step- children: Janet Dufreche, Joycelyn Lemon, and Bobby Cortez. 5 grand- children; 17 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and 6 step great- grandchildren, as well as 3 sisters. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Waldo E. Burnam and Forrest H. Arceneaux; her parents, Eva and Herman Mahr, 3 siblings; and 2 step-daughters, Barbara Arceneaux Lambert and Julie Cortez Walker. Pallbearers are Jared DeRouen, Jeff Duhon, Howard DeRouen III, Bert Jarreau, Jr., Dana Griffith and Bobby Cortez.
