James Funeral Home, Hammond, is in charge. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge) on: 12/21/2012 COTTON, EUNICE EDNA HEITMAN Eunice Edna Heitman Cotton, a native and longtime resident of Ponchatoula, died Sunday, Dec. 16 at Belle Maison Nursing Home in Hammond. She was 94. A 1940 graduate of Southeastern Louisiana College and a charter member of Southeastern's Thirteen Club, she briefly served as a clerical worker for the U.S. Navy in Panama. She earned a master's degree in library science from LSU in 1949. She was a parish librarian in Catahoula, Caldwell and Franklin parishes and was a pioneer in establishing library services in those communities, retiring as a library director in 1978. Preceded in death by nine siblings, as well as her husband, George Cotton, of Winnsboro; step-son Bob Cotton, Jonesville; and grandchildren Scott Cotton and Rob Cotton, also of Jonesville. She is survived by a step-daughter, Sue Cotton Avery and son-in-law Bill Avery, both of Baton Rouge; daughter-in- law Dot Cotton Lazarus, Jonesville; grandchildren Susan Cotton Hammett, Baton Rouge; Tom Cotton, Jonesville; Gary Avery, Ludwigsburg, Germany; and Laura Avery, New Orleans. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 West Magnolia Street, in Ponchatoula, followed by a service at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Burial to follow at Sandhill Cemetery.
