He was a native of Pride and reared near Albany. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theater and retired from Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Co. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Langley Cowart of Basile; one daughter, Shirley Klumpp of Eunice; two sons, Charles and Gregory Cowart, both of Greenwell Springs; nine grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren; five brothers, Joe, Wilford, Wilton, Floyd and Leroy; and two sisters, Irene Boyd and Inez Young. He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Inez Cowart; two sisters, Lorena Schaniel and Annie Cowart; and one brother, Clyde Cowart. Visitation will be today at Quirk & Son Funeral Home, Basile, from 4 to 9 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. until the funeral at 11. Burial will be in Langley Cemetery.
