She was born on Tuesday, April 6, 1926, in Natalbany, daughter of the late George and Tena Stewart Carroll. Mrs. Craig was a member of the New Haven Baptist Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 258 in Springfield. Surviving are her sons & daughters-in-law, Bobby and Brenda Craig Jr., George and Anita Craig, Joe and Kathy Craig; daughter & son-in-law, Belinda and Rodney Johnson; 8 grandchildren, Eric Craig, Kathleen Craig, Kay May, Scott Craig, Annie Craig, Cody Johnson, Daniel Craig, Jane Craig; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Maudie Raybourn and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Craig Sr. and granddaughter, Jesica Michelle Johnson; 2 brothers, Lonnie and John Carroll; 2 sisters, Iva M. Holts and Catherine Crayton. Friends will be received Friday, April 17, 2009, from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm and on Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond. Delmar J. Craig, 82, died Thursday, April 15, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. He was past commander of American Legion Post 156 and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Craig was a member of Amvets Post 68 and past 9th District commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3652. He was involved with the Boy Scouts for more than 65 years, and lately, involved in leadership with the 13-parish Istrouma Area Council in Baton Rouge. He held the Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor with Quinipissa Lodge and was an asset to those he served. Services were held Monday, April 19, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Hammond, by the Rev. Jean Foreman and the Rev. Ricky Willis. VFW Post 3652 and American Legion Post 156 also had a memorial service under the leadership of Vigil Honor Larry Townsend. He was survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret McNamara "Peg" Craig of Hammond; two sons, James Lee Craig of Henderson, Nev., and Berry James Craig of Oakridge, N.C.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Craig Wright; sister, Dorothy Craig Roberts; two brothers, Duane and Douglas Craig; and parents, John Robinson and Julia Elizabeth Publow Craig. Frank S. Craig Jr. died on Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at his home in Baton Rouge. He was born on May 11, 1918, in Mansfield, and resided in Baton Rouge since 1946. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverly Young Craig; a son, Frank S. Craig III, Baton Rouge, and his wife, Pamela S. Craig, and their two sons, Kyle Coleman Craig and Brenden Taylor Craig; a daughter, Beverly Clair Craig, Boston, and her son, Eli Matthew Craig Cherry; daughter, Nancy Jo Craig, Baton Rouge, and her son, Jesse Stewart Craig Goodell; a son, Dr. Robert Laird Craig, Baton Rouge, his wife, Izumi M. Craig, and their daughters, Mary Frances Craig and Jennifer Claire Craig; and a daughter, Anne O. Craig, New York; a brother, William L. Craig, Lafayette, and his wife, Val Craig; a sister, Mary Jo C. Lockwood, Hammond; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank S. Craig Sr. and Josie Powell Craig, Mansfield; and a brother, Dr. Rufus H. Craig Jr. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather and husband. He will always be loved and sorely missed by his family and friends. He graduated from Mansfield High School in 1934. He received a bachelor of arts degree from LSU in 1938 and a juris doctorate degree from the LSU Law School in 1940. He was the editor of the 1938 Gumbo, associate editor of the LSU Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif and several other university organizations. He was a member and president of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II, in the Pacific Theater and was awarded the Navy Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was wounded on Iwo Jima. He was married to Beverly Young on Dec. 27, 1945, and they had five children. They moved to Baton Rouge in January 1946, where he began the practice of law. He practiced law from 1946 to 1968, when he joined the Fidelity National Bank as an officer. He served as president of Fidelity from 1972 to 1979, chairman of the board from 1978 to 1984, and also chief executive officer from 1972 to 1983. Since 1984, he had been a partner or of counsel with the Phelps Dunbar law firm. He served as the first president of the Junior Bar Association of Louisiana after World War II from 1946 to 1947, and as such was a member of the board of governors of the Louisiana State Bar Association. He was a member of the nominating committee of the Louisiana State Bar for several terms. He also served as president of the Baton Rouge Bar Association from 1964 to 1965. In civic and social affairs, he was president of the following: the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge, the Baton Rouge Country Club, Istrouma Area Council Boy Scouts of America, Baton Rouge Arts & Sciences Center, United Givers Fund, Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce and the Council for a Better Louisiana. He was one of the founding directors of the Louisiana Nature Conservancy, and one of the founders of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation. He was chairman of the USS Kidd Development Council. He was a member of the first Baton Rouge Bi-Racial Committee. In 1980, the National Conference of Christians and Jews recognized him for leadership in human relations. He was a deacon of First Presbyterian Church. He was selected to the Hall of Honor of the Cadets of the Old War Skule. Public visitation was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 763 North Blvd., at noon Wednesday, Oct. 12.
