She was born in Hammond on Aug. 9, 1924. She was a resident of Baton Rouge for 64 years and a retired computer operator at United Companies. Joyce is survived by her husband, Ned L. Crandall; daughter, Sharon B. Lane and husband J.D. Lane, of Baton Rouge; son, Herbert L. Baker and wife Judy Baker, of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Matthew and Shelly LaValley, of Central, Aimee and Jim Shepherd, of Prairieville, Jon Baker, Alisha Baker, of Portland, and Kristi and Eric May, of Vancouver, Canada; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Ruth LaValley, Daniel and Kenny Scholl, of Central, Austin and Mason Efferson, of Prairieville, and Amber and Dakota May, of Vancouver; and brother, Howell Joiner, of Baton Rouge. Joyce is also survived by many stepchildren, stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Verna Joiner; two husbands; a grandson, Mark LaValley; sisters, Marie Mayo and Christy Lydia Martin; and brothers, Charles Joiner and Ronald Joiner. Joyce had a life filled with love and devotion. She was deeply involved in her church and will be sorely missed by her family, friends and the many people she met and touched. Joyce was a member of Chapelwood Church of God. She was very active in missions, singing and most importantly, as a prayer warrior. Many Tuesdays were spent praying with prayer partner Etta Osborne. A wake will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Wednesday, Jan. 19, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Viewing at the funeral home Thursday, Jan. 20, from 9 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m. Thanks to The Carpenter House for their compassion.
