She graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University when she was 17 and received a master's degree from Tulane University at age 19. She had a photographic memory and was Ping pOng champion at Southeastern Louisiana. She specialized in crippled children's work and was a Sunday school teacher and director for 40 years at First Baptist Church and Goodwood Baptist Church.
