She was 88 years old, born in Homer, and a resident of Zachary. She was a retired dietitian, having worked at Lane Memorial Hospital and Zachary and Baker Manor nursing homes. Visiting at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Zachary, from 9 a.m. Saturday until religious service at 10:30 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Ken Norton, pastor of Tangipahoa and Pine Ridge United Methodist churches. Burial in Azalea Rest Cemetery, Zachary. She is survived by three sons and their wives, Bill and Christine Waguespack Cranford, Lafayette, Charles and Dovie Rebouche Cranford, Metairie, and Danny and Ethel "Ducky" Collier Cranford, Clinton; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Wilson Cranford Norton and husband the Rev. Ken Norton, Tangipahoa; two brothers, Dr. Charlie W. Roberts Jr. and Homer C. Roberts, both of Baton Rouge; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. Preceded in death by her husband, Houston Charles Cranford; parents, Charlie Walton and Jewel May Perot Roberts Sr.; two sons, Hugh W. and Jimmy D. Cranford; grandson, David W. Cranford; and brother, Carl W. Roberts. Pallbearers are Chris, Todd, Bill Jr., Chad, Bart, Keith, Thad, Scott and Sean Cranford. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 5/2/2005 CRANFORD, VIRGINIA JOYE Virginia Joye Cranford died Saturday, April 30, 2005, at her home in Baton Rouge after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 14, 1931, in Monroe. She attended Mississippi State College for Women, graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, and received her master's in education from LSU. She retired from the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board with 42 years of service. Her teaching career began at Brookstown Elementary. She taught fifth grade at Walnut Hills Elementary, later becoming the school's librarian until her retirement in 1995. Although retired, Ms. Cranford stayed in close contact with many of her former students. She was a charter member of Broadmoor Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk and Sunday school secretary for many years. Ms. Cranford was also a member of the Natchez chapter of Order of the Eastern Star and Alpha Delta Kappa educational society. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home, Sunday, May 1, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and on Monday, from 1 p.m. until religious service at 2 p.m. Interment in Greenoaks Mausoleum. She is survived by her aunt, Shiela Seilheimer of Dallas; first cousins, Janet Ross of Knoxville, Tenn., Judy O'Neal of St. Joseph, Donald Roy Seilheimer of Dallas, Eddie Beard, Vic Simmermaker and Gayle Bryan, all of West Monroe, and S.E. Kirkpatrick of Port Neches, Texas; and a goddaughter, Alison Darsey of Hattiesburg, Miss. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Edna O'Neal Cranford; and very dear friends, Bernice and R.J. Stoker.
