A native of Roseland, he is survived by his son, Larry Anderson of New Orleans; two sisters, Ardean Buchanan and Rose Bennett, both of Los Angeles; and three brothers, Alton Curry of New Orleans, James Curry of Roseland and David Curry of Los Angeles. His parents, Richard and Marguerite Curry; one brother, Richard and one sister, Helen Williams, preceded him in death. Visitation will be Friday at Richardson Funeral Home, Amite, from 5 to 7 p.m. The Rev. LAMAR H. Lamar Curry, a native of Hall Summitt and a resident of Greensburg, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at North Oaks Hospital in Hammond. He is survived by his wife, Betty Clark Curry of Greensburg; four children, Kyle Lamar Curry and wife Sally of Hammond, Gregory Scott Curry and wife Paige of Denham Springs, Jennifer Nadine Curry Baggett and husband Bryan of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Stephen Nim Curry and wife Kim of Amite; grand- children, Katie Lee Curry, Whitney Nadine Curry, Landon Kyle Curry, Riley Dane Baggett, Kelsey Oneal Curry, Lydia Lynette Curry, Harrison Cole Baggett, Emily Lacey Curry, Presley Lauren Baggett, Mitchell Clark Curry, and Nim Lamar Curry; and a sister, Martha Nell Curry Strother and husband Gene of Amite. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Tracy Curry and Nadine Wiggins Curry, who were of Baton Rouge. Mr. Curry was a graduate of Raceland High School, Raceland, where he excelled in track and baseball. Mr. Curry graduated in 1961 from LSU with a degree in pre-pharmacy and graduated cum laude from Loyola University in New Orleans with a degree in pharmacy in 1963. Upon his graduation, he was honored by the mayor of New Orleans and given the keys to the city of New Orleans for being the most outstanding pharmacy student from Loyola. He was also a member of Rho Chi Honor Society. He also received the American Legion Award for courage, leadership, honor and service. Mr. Curry opened the Curry Pharmacy in Greensburg in 1968 and in Clinton in 1974. Mr. Curry's commitment to his professional career was exemplified by his affiliations as a life member of the Louisiana Pharmaceutical Association and the National Association of Retail Druggists. Mr. Curry established pharmaceutical services at the St. Helena Parish Hospital and for the past 31 years, he served as the hospital's only pharmacist. Mr. Curry's commitment to his customers to provide exceptional services was shown by his willingness to utilize pharmaceutical consultation known as Pharmacare. Mr. Curry was chosen king of the Forest Festival in appreciation of his service to the community and he was also selected St. Helena Citizen of the Year in 2003. Mr. Curry was also involved in many business activities throughout St. Helena Parish. In the early 1980s, he helped create interest in the development of oil exploration. He negotiated the purchase of land where the St. Helena Civic Center is located. He was appointed by the Police Jury to serve on the industrial board that secured a federal grant to build the structure that is now Southland Steel. He was instrumental in recruiting the parish's first dentist and in building him an office. Mr. Curry served for many years as a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Greensburg. He was also a Gideon and served as a lay minister for the St. Helena Parish Jail for many years. He wrote "Let's Look at the Word," a weekly column published in the St. Helena Echo. Mr. Curry was serving in the Harvest World Outreach Ministry in Hammond. Mr. Curry sponsored Little League baseball teams, local tennis tournaments and basketball clinics at St. Helena Elementary School. He worked to re-establish the Boy Scouts sponsored by the First Baptist Church. Mr. Curry's love of his community and his foremost commitment to the spreading of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ made him an exemplary citizen. The people of St. Helena Parish have benefited from his tireless work to improve the community. His countless hours of opening the doors to the pharmacy to provide medication to a sick person in the middle of the night or during a holiday meal, his foregoing of vacations in order to stay close to the hospital as its only pharmacist and his willingness to seek out the lost and hurting to provide ministry will be tremendously missed. Services for Mr. Curry were held at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, with visitation from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2004. Visitation on Monday, April 26, 2004, will be held from 10 a.m. until the funeral at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Greensburg. Service will be conducted by Pastor Bray Sibley, Harvest World Outreach, and Brother Jonas Robertson, Abundant Life Church in Harvey. Interment will be in Greensburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to G-12 Missions Project, Harvest World Outreach Ministries, 43052 Yokum Road, Hammond, LA 70403. Pallbearers will be Glenn Stanga, Brad Strother, John Albin, David Collier, Jeff Murphy and Steve Resor. Murphy Hospice House in Hammond, LA. He worked in retail management and was a member of the Methodist faith. Survivors include wife Sela Adams Curry of Metairie, LA. Also surviving are mother and step-father Sue Golden and Harold Turner, both of Petal, MS. He is also survived by his paternal grandfather Mitchell Curry of Petal and sister Leslie Carmel Curry of Petal. Visitation will be from 4:30-7 p.m. Sunday at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg.
