Visiting at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 10 a.m. until religious service in the chapel at 1:30 p.m. Interment in Stevens Cemetery, Tickfaw. He is survived by a brother, Charlie Curtis, Gillsburg, Miss.; sister, Mary C. Faust, Tickfaw; four nephews, Darell Faust, Tickfaw, and Shade, Thomas and Colby Curtis, all of Gillsburg; two great-nephews and a great-niece. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur B. Curtis; and mother, Helen Stevens Curtis. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge) on: 4/22/2011 CURTIS, BESSIE JOINER Mrs. Bessie Joiner Curtis, 96, born April 20, 1914, a native of Tickfaw and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 18, 2011. Mrs. Curtis is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Nellie Eperfania, of Port St. Lucia, Fla.; Mrs. Grace Chadwick, of Roseland; Mrs. Gladys Stevens, of Burgettstown, Pa.; and Betty Pal, of Robert; a brother, Redrick Joiner, of Loranger; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Curtis; parents, Redrick and Nell Kyzar Joiner; six sisters, Mary Garces, Stella Fernandez, Mozella Lavigne, Izette Johnson, Bertha Slocum and Lucille Knight; three brothers, Robert Joiner, Walter Joiner and Everette Joiner as well as two infant siblings. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, Saturday, April 23, from noon until religious services at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Larkin Harris and Dr. Frank Johnson will officiate. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, nurses and staff of Lakewood Quarters Nursing Home who assisted with her care, and the entire staff of Canon Hospice for their wonderful care, compassion and support as well as the staff of First Baptist Church, your support and prayers have been a blessing. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 12/5/2006 CURTIS, DORIS WALSH Doris Walsh Curtis passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, in Baton Rouge. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved life, being with people and cared deeply about her family. She was 85 and a native of Bogalusa. She was a resident of Hammond for 30 years and a resident of Baton Rouge for the past 26 years. She is survived by her four children, Michael Gordon Curtis and wife Vera Curtis of Federal Way, Wash., Pat Curtis Hewlett of Houston, Cate Curtis Heroman and husband Ted Heroman, and Carol Curtis Broussard and husband David "Fuzzy" Broussard, all of Baton Rouge; and a brother, Daniel Patrick Walsh of Bogalusa. She had six grandchildren, Juliet Lynn Curtis, Jacqueline Lucille Curtis, Kelly Heroman Wood, Curtis Justin Heroman, Megan Claire Broussard and Hayley Patricia Broussard. She was president of Triangle Timber Inc. and Curtis Land Corp. and a board member and director emeritus of the Louisiana Forestry Association. She volunteered more than 12,000 hours at Woman's Hospital, served as president of the Woman's Hospital Advisory Board and was recognized by Woman's Health Foundation and the YWCA of Greater Baton Rouge with a Special Achievement Award. She served on the board of directors of the Friends of Louisiana Public Broadcasting, YWCA in Bogalusa and the Hammond Agri-Dustrial and Balloon festivals. She was a devoted volunteer in public schools, including serving as PTA president of four different Hammond schools as well as the president of the 6th District PTA. She was a member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church in Hammond and St. James Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge. Pallbearers will be Ted Heroman, Fuzzy Broussard, Curtis Heroman, John Wood, Ray Mabus, Dale Walsh and Buck Vandersteen. Special thanks to Dr. Frank Alvarez for his care and patience. The family is indebted to the kindness and devotion of her caregivers, Claudette Curry, Carolyn Carter and Erma Smith as well as the staff of St. James Place and Hospice of Baton Rouge. Visitation at St. James Episcopal Church, 205 N. Fourth St., on Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 8:30 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Mark Holland. Visitation is also planned in the Parish Hall of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, 100 W. Church St., Hammond, on Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. with interment to follow in the church cemetery. A special scholarship fund has been established through the Louisiana Forestry Association.
