Kerry Grant Dangerfield Sr. worked for the Daily Star for 16 years. Afterwards, he joined the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Department. After 28 years of service, he retired with the rank of major. Kerry leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Kerry G. Dangerfield, Jr. of Slidell, Louisiana and Gerald B. Dangerfield of Hammond, Louisiana; one daughter-in-law, Dorable Dangerfield of Slidell, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Kerry Dangerfield III and Hailey Dangerfield of Slidell, Louisiana, and LaGerrica Dangerfield of Amite, Louisiana; three sisters, Eardell Hutchinson and Meather D. Johnson of Hammond, Louisiana and Cecil Carter of New Orleans, Louisiana; one brother, Wilbert Dangerfield of Hammond, Louisiana; four brother-in-laws, Louis Hutchinson Sr. of Hammond, Louisiana, Estervan Carter Sr. of New Orleans, Louisiana, Raymond Wells of Ponchatoula, Louisiana a Emery Burton and Kaseem Burton of Ashburnham, Massachusetts; four sister-in-law, Earline Dangerfield of Hammond, Louisiana, Dawn Howard and Gerry Wells of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, and Donna Burton of Ashburnham, Massachusetts; a host of nephews, nieces, great- nephews, great nieces, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Meather W. Dangerfield; father, Willie H. Dangerfield; two sisters, Norma Holmes and Dyann Dangerfield; and two brothers, Willie Dangerfield, Jr. and Carl Dangerfield. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in the Hammond Daily Star on: 7/22/2011 DANGERFIELD, WILBERT Dedicated public servant and activist, Wilbert Dangerfield, Sr. 73, passed away Monday, July 18th at the Bellevue Medical Center in Manhattan, New York. Wilbert Lee Dangerfield, Sr. was a native of Woodville, MS and active resident of Hammond. He had retired from 30 years of work with Bellsouth. He is noted as the first African American City Councilman for District 1 when he was elected in 1977 and where he served for 18 years along with 9 years with the SheriffŐs Department. He was still active in many civic and religious organizations until his death. He was a proud member of the Greenville Park Colored High School class of 1956. He was once the Chairman of the Deacon board at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where he presently served on the usher board. He is currently affiliated with the NAACP and the local Second Saturday Breakfast Organization. Mr. Dangerfield is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Earline Brumfield Dangerfield, one son; Wilbert (Jill) Dangerfield, Jr. of Hammond, and six daughters; Rev. Regina Burke of Schertz, TX, and Deadra, Rouchell, Yolander and Alesa Dangerfield, all of Hammond. He also leaves to cherish his memories, three sisters; Cecile Carter of New Orleans, LA, Eardell (Louis) Hutchinson and Meather Johnson both of Hammond, and four godchildrenŐ Kima Davis, Quanisha Wilson, Bryant Hutchinson and Nell Ruffin. He is preceded in death by his parents Willie and Meather Dangerfield, daughter Shelia Dangerfield, sisters; Norma Holmes and Dyann Dangerfield and brothers Willie, Coyle and Kerry Dangerfield. Visitation will take place on Friday, July 22nd from 3 until 8 p m at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Robert McCarty will conduct funeral services at 12 noon on Saturday, July 23rd at St. PaulŐs, located at 410 E Colorado Street in Hammond, LA. Interment will follow at Holly Gardens Cemetery.
