Born July 9, 1924 in Centreville, MS and passed away from this earth in Baton Rouge, LA on June 1, 2012 at the age of 87. He called himself a cranky disagreeable knucklehead who would disagree with a stump if it would let him. He was preceded in death by a wonderful wife and friend of 57 years, Maureen Daniels. He said she was better than he deserved. Ben graduated from LSU in 1944 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked five years for Gulf Oil in Venezuela where he met the love of his life, Maureen. Ben then worked as an Electrical Engineer for the East Baton Rouge Parish Sanitation Department and retired after many years of service. Ben was very involved with the Cajun Clickers Computer Club, YMCA, Louisiana Public Broadcasting and also volunteered at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library. He passed from this earth kicking and screaming, "I won't go." Fred Douglas "Paw Paw" Daniels was the youngest of 16 children born to the late Joseph Daniels and Ida Lawson Daniels on Sept. 4, 1922, in Amite. He departed this life on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, at Heritage House Nursing Home in Baton Rouge. After receiving his early education at the Tangipahoa Parish Training School in Kentwood, Fred went on to attend Grambling State University for a period of time. He faithfully served his country in World War II. He was married to the late Fannie Joseph Daniels on Sept. 16, 1942. God blessed them with a daughter, Abigail Veronica. Fred was very active with the Tangipahoa Chapter of the Grambling Alumni Association. He received Christ later in life and became a member of the Butler AME Zion Church under the pastoral leadership of the Rev. E.T. Pugh. Fred was an active and faithful member of the senior choir until his health declined, having once served as president. Fred had a fun-loving spirit. He had a passion for several things, namely, singing in the choir, Grambling football games, fishing and playing dominoes. As a resident of Heritage House, he was known to always have a song in his heart and on his lips. He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers, six sisters and his loving wife, Fannie Joseph Daniels. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted daughter, Abigail D. Brother William Daniels was born February 12, 1929 in Norwood, Louisiana. He was the fifth of eleven children born to the union of late Ikie and Beulah Daniels. He departed this life at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 28, 2012 at Sage Rehabilitation Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Bro. Daniels was baptized at an early age at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a member. He was married to Lucille Badie Daniels and to this union seven children were born. He retired from Local Union #1177 as a construction worker. He was 83. A native of Albany and U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he had worked as an operating engineer and retired from Local 406. He served as village marshal in 1967 and as town alderman from 1986to 1994. He was a member of the American Legion Post 258. His survivors include two daughters, Sandra Wagner of Albany, Annette Farris of Albany; four sons, Elwood and Ronnie Daniels of Hammond, Barry Daniels of Killian and Tommy Daniels of Livingston; two sisters, Audrey Purvis of Albany and Dorothy Bates of Albany; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
