He was born Monday, Aug. 20, 1917, in Hammond, son of the late John A. Davies Sr. and Celia Parker Davies. Mr. Davies was an Army veteran of World War II and served with the 1st Infantry Division in Europe. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Hazel D. Davies; son and daughter-in- law, Brian and Sandi G. Davies; daughters and sons-in-law, Marian and Billy Dalton, and Cathy and Neil Melancon; seven grandchildren, Stefanie Smolen, Brian Luck Davies, Shannon and Shayne Dalton, Justin, Renee and Jonathan Melancon; and three great-grandchildren, Kristian, Joshua and Carlyn. He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. Sr. and Celia Parker Davies; brothers, Stephen B. Davies and John A. Davies Jr.; and sisters, Albena Davies and Alice Core. Friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home chapel on Saturday, Feb. 6, from 8:30 a.m. until service at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Leon Dunn officiating. Interment will follow in the Davies Cemetery in Ponchatoula. The family extends deep appreciation to Vital Hospice. Hazel was born on Oct. 21, 1926, in Hammond, daughter of the late James Davis and the late Mary Frederick Davis. She was a retired sales- person for Dillard's Department Store. Surviving are her son and daughter- in-law, Brian and Sandi G. Davies; daughters and sons-in-law, Marian and Billy Dalton and Cathy and Neil Melancon; seven grandchildren, Stefanie Smolen, Brian Luck Davies, Shannon and Shayne Dalton, Justin, Renee and Jonathon Melancon; great-grandchildren, Kristan, Joshua and Carlyn; and brother and sister-in-law, Luther and Elsie Davis. Funeral Services for Morgan R. Davies Jr., 75, were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, from St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial was in Ponchatoula Cemetery under the direction of Geisler Funeral Home. Mr. Davies died Friday, Jan. 3, at his home. He was a Ponchatoula native and retired social worker for the State of Louisiana. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and American Legion Post No. 47. Mr. Davies was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1946-48. Survivors are his wife, Beverly Davies of Ponchatoula; three daughters, Cecilia M. McGregory of Terre Haute, Ind., Theresa A. Tillotson of Charlotte, N.C., and Mary J. Davies of Covington; two sons, Col. William G. Davies of Fairfax, Va., and Morgan Paul Davies of Ponchatoula; three sisters, Catherine Bryan of Hammond, Marie Morrison of Vancouver, Wash., and Leslie Lauderback of Pleasanton, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
