Visitation will be Saturday morning starting at 9 a.m. until service at 2 p.m. at Line Creek Baptist Church, Kentwood, with Brother John Cleveland officiating. Burial will be in the Line Creek Community Cemetery across from the church, with Hartman Funeral Home of McComb, Miss., in charge of arrangements. Ms. Dean was born March 15, 1918, in Osyka, Miss. She was the daughter of Paschal Wilson Dean and Cora Frances Cutrer Dean. She was a retired first-grade school teacher having taught in Gillsburg, Miss., Kentwood Elementary School and Valley Forge Academy. She was a faithful member of Line Creek Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk until her health failed her. For more than 15 years, Ms. Dean was faithful to open and close the church gym for all occasions. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Ira Chapter 84 in Kentwood. She was chosen Osyka's Outstanding Citizen at the Osyka Civic Club's Fall Fest in October 1995. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Jesse, S.E. and Floyd Dean; and five sisters, Daisy Cole, Belle Ellzey, Gladys McMichael, Lois Lovingood and Cora L. Dean. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was born Sunday, May 7, 1905 in Ponchatoula, daughter of the late Will and Clara Lavigne Howes and wife of the late John Fast and Elmer Dean. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ponchatoula, Nova Stella Chapter 36, O.E.S., and a retired Educator from the Tangipahoa Parish School System. Surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends. She was also preceded in death by 4 sisters, Margaret Wittie, Mamie Gray, Clara Bruning, and Mildred Knight; 5 brothers, Henry, Bert, Emmette, Joseph, and Rev. Ted Howes. Friends will be received Thursday, April 5, 2007 at First United Methodist Church of Ponchatoula from 9 AM until the 2 PM Service, conducted by Rev. Bob Diech.
