Born Feb. 1, 1938, in Purvis, Miss., to Nader and Julia Holcomb Deas, he died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at his home in Hammond. He was a longtime resident of Washington Parish, where he coached and was a principal for many years. He was the beloved husband of Mary Kenney Deas, and father of five children from his first marriage to Jean Anderson Deas: Donna Thomas, Janet Thomas and Jody Deas, all of Pine, Mike Deas, of Walker, and Julie Leyrer, of Madisonville. Also survived by two stepchildren, Steven Link, of Albany, and Mary Beth Crovetto, of Ponchatoula; two brothers, William "Bill" Deas, of Tupelo, Miss., and Robert O. Deas, of Denver; 11 grand- children, two great-grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren. Visitation at First Baptist Church, Franklinton, on Tuesday, May 5, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Visitation at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Harold Gaddy and the Rev. Donal Chance officiating. Burial in Rose Memorial Cemetery, Hammond.
