She was born on Thursday, June 9, 1938, in New Orleans. Mrs. DeJean was a member of East Union Baptist Church in Magnolia, MS. Surviving are her husband, Leon "Dut" DeJean, Sr.; daughter & son-in-law, Lynn DeJean and husband Edward Tyre, Jr.; 3 sons & daughters-in-law, Raymond DeJean, Sr. and wife Tana, Ronald DeJean, Sr. and wife Debra, and Leon DeJean, Jr. and wife Cynthia; 10 grandchildren, Kimberly Santa Marina, Edward Tyre, Raymond DeJean, Jr., Rashelle DeJean- Greenwood, Jessica DeJean, Ronald DeJean, Jr., Christiana DeJean, Michelle Vandenborre, Hunter John DeJean, and Hayden Leon DeJean; 4 great-grandchildren, Marci Santa Marina, Ronald Eschete, Parker Layton, and Lillian Rose Tyre; 2 sisters, Nelda Phelps Harrell and Ann P. Burch Barber; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Melvie Morgan and Albert A. Phelps; 4 brothers, T. C. Phelps, George Phelps, Cullen Phelps, and Curtis Phelps; and grandson, Michael Thomas Tyre.
