He was born on May 8, 1917, in Independence, son of the late Charles and Patrina Costa DeSalvo. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 109, Independence. Surviving are his wife, Mary Catalano DeSalvo, Independence; son, Vincent J. DeSalvo, Baton Rouge; four sisters, Rose Bonnemaison, Angel Sellen and Jenny Calcagno, all of New Orleans, and Frances Spitale, Hammond; grandson, Reed DeSalvo; and granddaughter, Brittany DeSalvo. He was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew "Henry" DeSalvo; and two sisters, Josephine Danna and Mary Vullo. Friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, on Wednesday, Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, Hammond, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. She was born on Wednesday, September 16, 1914 in Des Allemands, Louisiana, daughter of the late Neil and Lillian Torres Bergeron. Surviving are her 2 sons, Donald J. DeSalvo Sr., Michael A. DeSalvo Sr.; 2 daughters, Loretta A. DeSalvo, Jackie D. Hodges; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Alma McLaughlin and her brother, Raymond Bergeron. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack A. DeSalvo and 3 brothers, Neil ³Blackie² Bergeron, Percy Bergeron and Roy Bergeron. Friends will be received Friday, November 23, 2007 from 8:00 am until 10:15 am at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula. Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, November 23, 2007 at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in the Ponchatoula Cemetery.
