He was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Independence. He was a tree cutter by profession. Leon was an avid hog hunter using only his dogs and was affectionately known as "Hog Man." Leon leaves behind his loving wife, Elizabeth DiMarco; his three sons, Michael, Leon and Daniel; two brothers, Larry and Lemuel and three grandchildren, Mary, Luke and Madeline. Leon is preceded in death by his first parents, Lucien and Lucille; his brother, Lucien; his sister, Lena and sister-in-law, Beverly. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the religious services from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond, on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home chapel on Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Visitation will resume on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until the funeral service time. She was born on Tuesday, March 5, 1929, in New Orleans, daughter of the late Robert and Alice Haney Gurtner. Surviving are her husband, Peter DiMarco and husband, 3 daughters, Dianna H. Benthall, Claire R. Thibodeaux, Rose R. Griffen; 3 sons, Dennis Hewitt, Raymond Rivet, Joseph Rivet; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Rita Hewitt; brother, Peter Gurtner and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son, Clarence Rivet; brothers, Robert Gurtner and Ralph Gurtner.
