Age 86, a native of England, longtime resident of Arabi and six year resident of Tickfaw, Effie passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at her home. She served in the Women's Land Army during WWII and was subsequently a homemaker. She leaves behind her daughter, Judy Tabora; son, Robert Doherty Jr. and wife Brenda; grandchildren, Francis Scott, Heather Saragusa, Vicki Tabora, Robyn Doherty and Robert Tabora; great- grandchildren, Devon Doherty, Haley Jo Saragusa, Brynn Tabora, Francis Scott Jr., Wensley Saragusa, Ella Tabora and Kylee Scott, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Effie in death were her husband, Robert Doherty, Sr. and daughter, Effie Scott. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the religious services from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m. Rev. Spencer Lindsay will officiate the services and interment will follow in Gatlin Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Doherty of Hammond; one daughter, Romelda Doherty of Kenner; two sons, Louis Doherty Jr. and Anthony Doherty of Hammond; one sister, Rosemary Bickham of Indianapolis, Ind.; one brother, Ledel Doherty of Hammond; and four grandchildren.
