A resident and native of Ponchatoula, he died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at his home. He was 82. Visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. Visitation at the funeral home chapel from 8 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m. Friday. Entombment in Ponchatoula Mausoleum. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruby Shaffer Drude, Ponchatoula; two sons, Kenneth Paul Drude, Dayton, Ohio, and Ronald Joseph Drude, Robert; a sister, Rita Drude Walz, Hammond; four brothers, Raymond Drude and Robert "Bobby" Drude, both of Ponchatoula, Jacob "Jake" Drude, and David Drude, Ponchatoula; and three grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Louise LeSaicherre Drude; two brothers, Melvin and John Alvin Drude; and a sister, Carlene McClendon. He was a member of American Legion Post 47, Ponchatoula, former member of Tangi Toastmasters, member of Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce and St. Joseph Catholic Church and former assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 101. His farm was used by LSU for the experimental purpose of developing new varieties of strawberries. He introduced frost control for berry farmers and was one of the first farmers to use plastic under plants. He was a past president of the Ponchatoula Farm Bureau and was the second Strawberry Festival king. He was the author of five books and six songs and he wrote numerous editorials for local papers. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in the Hammond Daily Star on: 6/24/2011 DRUDE, KATHLEEN ANN Kathleen Ann Drude, 76 years old of Ponchatoula, LA, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at North Oaks Medical Center. She was born on Saturday, November 10, 1934, in Ponchatoula, daughter of the late Peter Jr. and Catherine Schmidt Drude. She was a devoted daughter, niece, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and teacher, having taught at Leon Godchaux High School in Reserves and Northeast Louisiana University (1960-1986) in Monroe, Louisiana and Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. She earned her B.S. from Southeastern Louisiana University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi, all in mathematics. She was a member of Kappa Rho (later Alpha Omega Pi) Sorority and Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Fraternity. She will be greatly missed. Her life was one of service, teaching and caring for others, including family, friends, students, and her beloved pets. She was an inspirational model to others, both professionally and in her personal life, endearing herself to all who knew her with her excellent sense of humor. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, bridge, and baking cakes and desserts, and was an avid LSU, Ole Miss, and Saints football fan. Surviving are her 3 sisters Rose Drude Snellgrove, Shirley Ann Drude Mitcham & Carol Drude Lane; brother, Pete Drude III, also her great-aunt and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends & loved ones.
