Ethel K. Dukey, 94, of Princeville, formerly of Ponchatoula, LA, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2008, at Rosewood Care Center, Peoria, where she had been a patient since February 27th. She was born September 13, 1913, in New Orleans, LA, the daughter of Arthur Henry and Cecile Viola Judice Khern. She married John M. Dukey, Sr, on October 9, 1945, in LeRoy, IL. John preceded her in death on December 19, 2007, in Peoria. Also preceding her in death was her parents, and one infant son, Michael Arthur Dukey. Surviving is one son, John M. (and Linda) Dukey, Jr, of Princeville; one granddaughter, Kristl Dukey, and one grandson, Jonathon Dukey, both of Princeville; one brother, Arthur H. Khern, Jr. of Metairie, LA; one sister, Helen V. Lapari of Kenner, LA; and two nieces and two nephews of Louisiana. She was a key punch operator for Exxon Mobil Oil Company in Louisiana for 14 years. Then she worked as a secretary for Princeville High School for 16 years, retiring in June, 1979. Ethel was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 36, in Ponchatoula, since 1938, and VFW Auxiliary #3652 in Hammond, LA, where she served as past president. She was a volunteer for the Seventh Ward Hospital for 14 years in Ponchatoula. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church Ponchatoula, and attended the first Presbyterian Church in Princeville. There will be no visitation or service. Burial of cremains will be at Greenwood & Cypress Grove Cemetery in New Orleans at a later date. Princeville - John M. Dukey, Sr., 91, of Princeville, formerly of Ponchatoula, LA, died at 3:29 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria. Born January 24, 1916, in Rock Island, IL, the son of John and Emily Anderson Dukey, he married Ethel Khern on October 9, 1945, in Leroy, IL. She survives. Also surviving are one son, John M. (and Linda) Dukey, Jr. of Princeville; one granddaughter, Kristl Dukey of Princeville; one grandson, Jonathon Dukey of Princeville; one niece; and one nephew; and his beloved cat, Trixie. His parents, one sister, Frances Leona Thompson, and one infant son, Michael Arthur Dukey preceded him in death. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, serving in the Navy Seabees for two years in the Pacific Theater. He was a heavy equipment operator from 1946 until 1979, when he retired. He was a member of operating engineers local #649 and #649 retirees club. He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, Ponchatoula, LA, and a current member of the First Presbyterian Church in Princeville. There will be no visitation or local service. Cremation has been accorded. Burial of John's ashes will be at Greenwood & Cypress Grove Cemetery in New Orleans, LA at a later date. Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
