He was born on Monday, August 24, 1931, in Cottonport, Louisiana and grew up in Bunkie, Louisiana. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in March 1949 and retired in July 1972 at the rank of Lieutenant Commander, serving his nation as a Naval Aviator. He was the son of the late Worthy Joseph Duplechin and the late Stella Rose Young Duplechin, both of Avoyelles Parish, LA. He is survived by his wife, Florence Berwick Duplechin of Hammond; son, CW4 Richard E. Duplechin, U.S. Army, of Carrollton, TX; daughter-in-law, Tammy R. Duplechin of Carrollton, TX; grandson, Ryan M. Duplechin, 23, of Lubbock, TX; and granddaughter, Jana G. Duplechin, 20, of Carrollton, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents & sister Beverly Ann Duplechin of Alexandria, LA. Services were held on Monday, November 2, 2009, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, Louisiana. He was buried in Wetmore Cemetery in Ponchatoula with full military honors; Chaplain Robert Brown, U.S. Army, officiating. JR. Kentwood - Robert M. Duplechin Jr., 70, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at his residence near Kentwood. A native of New Orleans, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict and the founder of the Pacemaker Clinic Inc. Survivors include his wife, Winnie Smiley Duplechin, Kentwood; two sons, Robert Moise Duplechin III and Ron Duplechin, both of Metairie; a sister, Rae Duplechin Connell, Arabi; and two grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Philip Neri, 6600 Kawanee Ave., Metairie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Bird Cancer Center in Hammond or the American Heart Association.
