Carl R. Durbin, 92, of Hammond, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, in North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. He was born March 20, 1918, in Independence. Mr. Durbin served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an expert in Morse Code. After his service in Europe, he continued to serve in Fort Sill, Okla., where he taught Morse Code with the military. Mr. Durbin worked with Union National Life Insurance for 46 years.
