She was born April 3, 1922 in Amite. She was the daughter of Eugene and Ella Vee McCoy Sharkey. She was a member of Kedron Baptist Church. She was retired from the Louisiana Department of Health where she worked as a lab technician and was an Avon representative for over 20 years. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Freddie O. Travis and John A. Durnin, Sr.; a great-grandson, Timothy Sedtal; a son-in-law, Donald Moffat and two brothers, Wallace Sharkey and Wilford Sharkey and wife, Nell McDaniel Sharkey. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy Moffat of Zachary and Beverly and Willie Ray Watson of Greensburg; a stepson and his wife, John A. Durnin, Jr. and Laurie of Baton Rouge; a stepdaughter, Ward Ann Durnin of Florida; nine grandchildren and spouses, David and Lisa Moffat of Norwood, Mark and Malisa Moffat of Sulphur, Karen and Joey Sedtal of Covington, Nancy Moffat of Zachary, Rebecca and Adam Stocks of Flowery Branch, GA; Scott and Lori Foster of Kentwood, Mike and Vicki Foster of Zachary, Doug and Crystal Watson of Greensburg and Randy Watson of Kentwood ; 24 great-grandchildren; 6 great- great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation is Monday at Kedron Baptist Church, 71 Hwy. 1047, Amite, LA 70422 from 9AM until services at 1PM with Dr. Reggie Bridges and Rev. Jake Williams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb in charge. Pallbearers will be Scott Foster, Mike Foster, David Moffat, Mark Moffat, Tim Sharkey and Buddy Sharkey. A retired employee of United Gas Pipeline Co., he died at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at his residence in Hillsdale. He was 75 and a native of Amite. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and after 8 a.m. Friday. Religious services at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. Jack Nutter. Interment in Roberts Cemetery, Hillsdale. Survived by his wife, Marguerite Stevens Durnin, Hillsdale; a son and daughter-in-law, Norman Steven and Trudy Dees Durnin, Hillsdale; two grandchildren, Kayla Nicole Durnin and Karly Blair Durnin; and three sisters, Marguerite Durnin Silbernaigle, Metairie, Bertha Durnin Davis, Amite, and Melba Durnin Smith, Greensburg.
