EARNEST, HENRY, SR.
Henry Earnest Sr., 77 years old, Hammond, LA, died on Thursday, August 7,
2008, at home. He was born in Hammond, LA.  Surviving are his wife of 38
years, Shirley Ann Earnest; three (3) daughters, Janice Coleman, Omaha,
Neb., Cynthia Earnest, Las Vegas, Edith Jackson, Hammond; (2) sons, Henry
Earnest Jr., Ponchatoula, Len Jackson, Hammond; (1) sister, Noami Larry,
Chicago; (1) brother, Henry Ledbetter, Maryland; (3) daughters-in-law, (6)
sisters-in-law, (4) brothers-in-law, (9) grandchildren, (5) great-
grandchildren, (1) godchild, Alonzo Forrest, and a host of nephews and
nieces and friends.  He was a longtime member of Alstork Memmorial AME Zion
Church of Hammond. He retired from SLU after (30) years of working in the
cafeteria. He also worked at Community State Bank (Hancock Bank) for six
years.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Cotton Earnest;
his father, mother, grandfather and grandmother; and (1) son, Thomas
Michael Earnest.  Visitation will be held on Friday, August 15, 2008, 
5-8 p.m. at N.A. James Funeral Home, 407 Noah A. James Drive, Hammond, LA.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2008, at 11:00 a.m., viewing
from 9 a.m. to service time. Services will be held at First Bethel
Independence Methodist Church, 407 N. Cherry Street, Hammond, LA, Helen
Catharine McMurray officiating.

EARNEST, SHIRLEY
Shirley Earnest, 71, resident of Hammond, passed away at her home on Sept. 
14, 2012.  She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Edith Jackson, 
son, Len Jackson, four sisters: Myra Sanders, Clara Carter, Rev. Shirley 
Vicks, Earline Harrison, three brothers: Terry White Sr., Bennie and 
Charles Smith. She also leaves nine grandchildren, eight great grand- 
children and a host of other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in 
death by her parents, Henry Smith and Annie B. Jackson, her husband, Henry 
Earnest, one stepson, three sisters and three brothers.  Visitations will 
be held on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at N. A. James Funeral Home from 
4-8 p.m. and on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at First Bethel Independent 
Methodist Church from 9-10:30 a.m. Rev. Helen McMurray will conduct funeral 
services at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Holly Gardens in Hammond.
