He was born on Nov. 26, 1927, in West Bend, Wis. and later graduated from Ann Arbor, Mich. He served in the U.S. Army, including two years in Germany after World War II and he was a member of the 1st Regimental Army Band. Mr. Eberhardt was a forester for 35 years. He planted many trees and helped fight many forest fires, including jumping out of airplanes to fight fires in remote areas. He also worked as a Realtor for 18 years. He was an Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster. Mr. Eberhardt was an active volunteer including North Oaks Hospital, Westside and Eastside Elementary Schools, CASA, board member for the Youth Service Bureau, the American Legion, and more than 50 years with the United Methodist Church. Bill had a love for the outdoors and regularly enjoyed tennis and fishing. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Sticker Eberhardt; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kim Eberhardt; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Chris Cerniauskas; grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Cerniauskas, Mallory Sprehe, and Garrett Johnson; stepson, and daughter-in-law, Jeff and April Holmes; stepgrandchildren, Schoen and Jessica Holmes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Alma Gerner Eberhardt. Family and friends are invited to celebrate William's life at the First United Methodist Church in Ponchatoula on Wednesday, Dec. 7, from 2 p.m. until memorial service at 3 p.m. Donations may be made to the New Horizons Youth Service Bureau, 47257 River Road, Hammond, LA 70401 or the American Cancer Society .
