DANIEL Dr. J. Daniel Edmonds, 61, born and raised in Germantown, Tenn., died Monday, July 26, 2010, at his home in Tickfaw. He was born Monday, July 11, 1949. During his education, he graduated from Vanderbilt University, Memphis State University and later from the Southern College of Optometry in 1979. He moved to southern Louisiana in 1981, and enjoyed being a self-employed optometrist in the Hammond area for more than 29 years. As an optometrist, the healing hand he offered to his patients extended far beyond their optometric needs. As a proud father, husband, family member, and friend, he was very dedicated to the people whom he loved. Those touched by his life continue to value his kindhearted humor, genuine concern for others, and passion for life. Surviving are his daughter, Jeanette M. Edmonds; mother, Jeanne Hutchison Edmonds; and three brothers, Jim Edmonds, Dr. David Edmonds and John Edmonds. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry Street Edmonds; and father, Dr. James B. Edmonds. Friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, on Friday, July 30, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation continues Saturday, July 31, from 9 a.m. until the funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. Interment in Wetmore Cemetery, Ponchatoula. A resident of Kentwood, he died at 12:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at LSU Medical Center, Shreveport. He was 47 and a native of Little Rock, Ark. Visitation was at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. Visitation at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until religious services at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, conducted by the Rev. David Cutrer. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Kentwood. Survived by his wife, Beulah C. Edmonds, Kentwood; two sisters, Elvie Kay Edmonds and Betty Lou Dykes, both of Pheba, Miss.; seven nieces; two nephews; four great-nieces; and a great-nephew.
