Alice Efferson, retired teacher, whose career in public education spanned more than 43 years, passed away peacefully at her home on Christmas Morning from complications of Pulmonary Fibrosis. Alice was born in Hammond, LA, to Woodrow Willie Wall and Lola Lesslie Wall, who moved their family to Baton Rouge in 1948. Alice attended Hammond Elementary, Standard Heights Elementary, Istrouma Junior High, Istrouma High and LSU, where she earned her Bachelors and Masters +30 in Education. A champion of Education, Alice was most proud of ingraining in her children, and students, a zeal for learning, a passion for the arts, and love for their fellow man. Alice was a recipient of numerous honors including Teacher of the Year. Having taught at Bellingrath Hills Elementary, Baton Rouge Center for the Visual and Performing Arts, Magnolia Woods Elementary, and Jefferson Terrace Elementary, over 1000 students have been the recipient of her gifts, talents and special ability to make every child feel valued. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, of 23 years Cline Elmo Efferson, Jr., and her parents, Woodrow and Lola (Lesslie) Wall. Alice leaves behind three children; Laura Efferson, Lt. Col. Carey Efferson, and Julie Efferson; six grandchildren Alexander, Portia, Max, Sofia, Jack, and Luke; her sisters Marcia Wall Ausborn and Linda Wall; and her brothers-in-law, Richard Efferson and Howard ""Bird"" Ausborn. The Rev. Lee Allen will officiate a Celebration of Alice's Life, Saturday, January 19, 2013, 2pm at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, where Alice was also a member and a teacher. All who have been so fortunate to be touched by the kindness and grace of Alice are encouraged to attend.
