She was born Wednesday, Sept. 6, 1916, in Prairieville, the daughter of the late Maurice and Dauphine Parr Landry. Surviving are four sons, Maurice B. Effler of Ponchatoula, Thomas P. Wells and Don Effler, both of Hammond, and Thomas S. Effler of Westwego; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bessie Wills of Denham Springs. Preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Effler; son, J.W. Effler; sister, Eva Vicknair; and brothers, Vincent, Willie, Raymond and Peter Landry. Surviving are her husband Richard Effler; daughter & son-in-law, Connie and Junior Kirby, daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and Billy Wallace, daughter and son-in-law Vickie and Vernon Effler; son and daughter-in-law Richie and Shirley Effler, son and daughter-in-law Ronnie and Paula Effler; and son Jackie Effler; two sisters, Frances Wallace and Beulah Mae Ladner; two brothers, Albert and Leroy "Popeye" Anthony; 14 grandchildren, and eight great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, John Boy, Woodrow and Allan "Cowboy" Anthony and one sister Lou "Yank" Hewitt. A native and resident of Pumpkin Center, he was a retired painter and Sheetrock contractor and a longtime member of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Pumpkin Center. He served as music director for numerous area churches. He was a member of Ponchatoula Masonic Lodge and Gideons International and was a past member of the Civil Air Patrol and the Tangipahoa Shriners. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. Mr. Effler is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elois Hoover Effler of Hammond; daughter and son-in-law, Ronald D. and Gwendolyn Effler Traylor of Hammond; daughter, Gail Effler Kilroy of Hammond; son, Charles E. Effler of Hammond; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Battice and Vina LeNora Wells Effler; five brothers, Woodrow Effler, Johnny Gautreau Effler, Lucius Effler, Clifford Frednan Effler and Walter Carson Effler; and four sisters, Viola Effler Adama, Edna Effler Dyess, Willa May Effler and Myrtle Effler.
