Edward King Ellis, Jr. - born June 27, 1948; died October 4, 2013 while in hospice care for lung cancer. "King" was the son of Edward King Ellis and Corinne Delahoussaye Ellis, both deceased and natives of New Orleans. He is survived by his son Casey McClellan, his six siblings,Rebecca Patin, Priscilla Hagadorn, Paul, Gregory, Donald and Bruce Ellis, his fifteen nieces and nephews and his four grand nieces and nephews. At the time of his death King was a resident of Robert, LA, where he lived for 40 years at TEOC, his beloved family farm, which he called "Paradise". Sharing the daily chores with brothers Donald and Bruce was his great pleasure in life. He took great pride in the fact that "We will capture more CO-2 in our Pine tree farm than the entire carbon footprint of our family for the next three generations". In Robert he was a regular at Lillies cafˇ and Cooter Brown's restaurant. Known by friends past and present for his prodigious memory King's legendary powers of recall were often checked against Google Search during table top discussions. The invariable outcome was "He's right again". Friends from Jesuit High School, where King was in the graduating class of 1966, remember his ability to argue either side of just about any interesting topic with equal passion and conviction "depending on how he felt that day". Prior to making TEOC his full-time hobby King worked in the Gulf of Mexico off-shore oil fields, at the Marriott Hotel on Canal St, at Snug Harbor and in the early days of the Jazz Fest when "we stood so close to Professor Longhair that we were literally leaning on the back of the piano". King was a gentleman, and also a true egalitarian whose charm and generosity of spirit endeared him to people from all walks of life. He could also be full of contradictions: a man who could quote Epictetus and relaxed reading Harpers', but loved a good controlled burn on the tree farm; he could be profoundly welcoming, but was intensely private; he never seemed to be in a particular hurry to get anywhere, yet had a talent for being in just the right place at the right time to change someone's life or leave them with an indelible memory. King was a man who set out to be true to himself, and along the way had an immense impact on all those around him. He was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be profoundly missed. Friends will be received Wednesday, October 9, 2013 from 5:30 pm until 9:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Hammond. Services will be held at Funeral Home Chapel - Hammond, Wednesday, at 7:00 pm, with officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to a local P.B.S. station, http://www.wyes.org/, or lpb.org. An on-line guest book is available at www.harrymckneely.com. ******************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge) on: 1/11/2003 ELLIS, ELEANOR K.
