Hugh E. "Buddy" Felder, Jr. died on Aug. 22, 2012. He was 76. He was born in Hammond where he lived until 1968. He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh E. "Red" Felder, Sr.; his mother, Carmolete Ford Felder; and his brother, Robert Ford "Bobby" Felder. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marie Goudeau Felder; three children, Judy Felder Piersall, Robert John Felder, and Amy Felder Cumo; son-in-law Jeff Piersall; and six grandchildren, Kali Piersall, Ellie Piersall, Wes Piersall, Allie Felder, Matthew Peek, and Michael Cumo. In 1968, he was hired by Cargill, Inc. and was responsible for several territories in the Southeast while serving as a sales manager in the Feed and Grain Division. He was born in 1931, and was a native of Springfield, La. With his family, he had lived in Ponchatoula since 1951. Felder was District Manager for Woods Rotary Cutters and Owner of River Oaks Club for over 25 years, and was a Paul Harris Fellow. In addition to having an active interest in local politics, in recent years, Felder and his wife and family, were noted for the annual Birthday/Gumbo tasting event held out-of-doors at their Ponchatoula home. It was attended every year by several hundred area friends and relatives and created a need for a temporary street-closing it was so heavily attended. A lifelong resident of Hammond, Bobby's family formerly owned and operated Felder's IGA, currently operating as Guy's Food Store in downtown Hammond. He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh "Red" Felder; and his mother, Carmelete Ford Felder. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Paulette Maurin Felder; three children, Margaret Elizabeth Mollega, Robert Ford Felder Jr. and Andrew Maurin Felder; son-in-law, Coy Mollega; a brother, Hugh "Buddy" Felder Jr.; and two grandchildren, Isabella Rose Mollega and Elisabeth Ella Mollega. Bobby attended grade and high school at the Southeastern Lab School in Hammond, where he was a member of the track team and set numerous track records. After high school, he attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, participating on their track team. After graduation from McNeese, he served in the U.S. Army for two years in the Adjutant General's Corp. His tour of duty included one year in Korea. After completion of his tour of duty, he was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant and received the U.S. Commendation Medal. Bobby went on to receive a master's degree in education from Southeastern Louisiana University. After completing his studies at Southeastern, Bobby went to work for Maurin Motors, later known as Hammond Lincoln-Mercury. He had been in the car business ever since. Bobby was active in civic affairs, having served eight years on the Hammond City Council and was a past president. He was a member of the Hammond City Club, formerly the Hammond Exchange Club, for more than 30 years, having served as its president. He was former chairman of the Hammond Housing Authority, and also past chairman of the Hammond branch of the American Cancer Society. He was a member of Oak Knoll Country Club and Holy Ghost Catholic Church.
