A native son of Leigh-On-Sea, England and Citizen of the World, Nick called Hammond, LA home. In service to his Mother England, Nick served as a Lifeboatman in Essex's Southend. He saved numerous lives in peril from the unforgiving tempests of the North Sea. Nick never met a stranger, and was friends with too many to enumerate. He enjoyed natureŐs treasures and always stopped to "smell the roses." As a young man in England, Nick was the road manager of rock-n-roll legends Dr. Feelgood. He managed the band throughout the continent and into cold war Iron Curtain satellites. He was always happy to share stories of the bandŐs antics. Nick kept one foot in Hammond while exploring the world. He was well traveled in the U.S. proper. He had a particular fondness for the Western U.S. He hiked Mount Rainier and Mount Whitney, camped in the Bad Lands, canoed and fished the western streams and rivers. He loved reading and talking about the American Indians, their culture and traditions. Nick lived on the Island of St. Croix for two years where he has many friends and fans who will miss him. A fearless advocate of self- deprecators, Nick was always quick to point out "we are all imperfect human beings." He had a unique opinion on every issue and was able to articulate it without confusion. His consistency for being on the side of social justice was a certainty. Nick was a carpenter, philosopher, political prognosticator, avid reader, journalist, son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all. Preceded in death by his father, John David Phillips. Survived by his mother and father, Margaret Letty and Ken William Finegan, sister, Sarah Jane Finegan, brother and sister-in-law, Seth Liam and Eleanor Maise Finegan, nieces, Alice Dowdeswell and Millicent Finegan, and nephews, Harry Dowdeswell and William Finegan. Family and friends are invited to attend a church service, Saturday, Nov 5th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Holy Ghost Catholic Church directly followed by a memorial service at Mariner's Inn. *************************************************************************** File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/tangipahoa/obits/obitssur/finegan.txt
