He was a member of Ironworkers Local 623 for more than 30 years and was retired for 24 years. He served during World War II in the U.S. Navy. Visiting at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Zachary, on Tuesday, July 3, from 9 a.m. until service at 2 p.m., conducted the Rev. Basil Wicker. Burial in Eastern Star Cemetery in Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Charrier Firmin of Slaughter; three daughters, Barbara "Bobbie" Bourgeois and husband Phillip "Flip" Bourgeois, and Dorothy "Dottie" Doucet and husband Bill Doucet, all of Slaughter, and JoAnn Ilngenfritz and husband Tracy Ilgenfritz of Ethel; two sons, Roy Firmin and wife Debbie Pearson Firmin of Zachary, and Jimmie Firmin Jr. of Clinton; a sister, Marie Beard of Baton Rouge; three brothers, Lincoln and wife Joyce Luneau Firmin of Independence, Herman and wife Angie Doucet Firmin, and John B. and wife Lucille deGlandon, all of Central; grandchildren, Phillip "Li'l Flip" Bourgeois, Shane Bourgeois, Dawn Gulledge, Montana Ilgenfritz, Roy Firmin Jr., Jimmie Firmin, Fran Naquin, Les Firmin and Tammy Bourgeois; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Firmin; parents, Pierre and Amelie Douzat Firmin; two brothers, Elmo Firmin and Rubin Beard; and sister, Myrtle Beard. Pallbearers will be Trey Gulledge, Roy Firmin Jr., "Li'l Flip" Bouregois, Shane Bourgeois, Jimmy Firmin and Bill Doucet. Honorary pallbearer is Tracy Ilgenfritz. Surviving Joyce are her husband of 59 years, Lincoln Firmin; sons, Tim and Mike Firmin; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren along with seven siblings. She was preceded in death by her son, Russ Firmin and a brother and sister. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services from the chapel of Brandon G.
